Vegan Gumbo

This is one of my absolute favorite dishes to make my family! I’ve got southern roots so I had to make a Gumbo!

This gumbo takes about 15-20min to prep and the Gumbo needs to simmer about 45 minutes.

The star of this dish is Apple Sage Sausage by Field Roast. Gumbo is dish normally filled with seafood and sausage.. so I guess this is cruelty free gumbo 🤷🏾‍♀️ The sausage is so rich and flavorful. It really brings the dish together! You MUST have this sausage!

Gumbo is not an everyday meal but it’s certainly delicious around the holidays…or the weekend!!

I would just recommend it when you have time to savor and enjoy it…it’s that good. I hope you enjoy if you do comment below.

Ingredients for vegan gumbo

1/2 cup olive oil

3/4 cup flour

1/2 large yellow diced onion

3 cloves of garlic

1 large green bell pepper chopped

1 1/2 can of diced

3 field roast sausage chopped

3.5 cups of vegetable broth

1 bay leaf

1 tsp dried thyme

1 tsp fresh black pepper

1 tbs cajon seasoning

1 cup okra sliced

1 small pot of rice cooked and set aside… you’re going to serve the gumbo over rice.

To prepare the vegan gumbo

Preheat a large Dutch oven add the olive then sprinkle flour when the oil is hot, let the flour sit unstirred in the oil until golden brown this is your roux. Your roux is your base for the gumbo🤗 add the onions and add a sprinkle of sea salt, just a pinch (#saltbae it) cook until soft about 2 minutes add the garlic, celery, green peppers and okra. Let the veggies cook together about 5 minutes.

Add the sausage and tomatoes, stir them well.

At this time taste and add the vegetable broth as well as the bay leaf allow to cook uncovered 30-45 minutes depending how thick you like it..I like mine thick, in order to thicken gumbo add about a tablespoon or so of flour to the pot to get it THIICCCK! Once the gumbo is as THICK as you like add the final spices and serve over rice

Let me know what you think of my recipe below I’m dying to see who tries it❤️😍😍

Have a wonderful day.
