3 Easy black bean burger patties

I’ve been vegan a little over two years now…

When I first became vegan I taught myself to cook all my favorite foods vegan so I wouldn’t miss them.

The first recipe I looked for was a black bean burger.

It was so delicious! So easy and soo cheap!

Begging vegan doesn’t have to be expensive. That’s one reason it was one of my favorite meals to make the family.

I used to make them all of the time them suddenly I just stopped.

This weekend I was looking at food photos and thinking, “I really used to be such a “good” vegan when I started out”

I used to make my own black bean patties from scratch:

Then I just kind of became lazy and started buying the “Beyond Meat” burger from Carl’s Jr.

Yeah.. it tasty but honestly it’s expensive and I really started getting out of hand with my eating so I’ve decided to go back for the basics!

Back to when I was watching “The Cheap, Lazy, Vegan” make 3 ingredient black bean burgers!

That video showed me you didn’t need much to make a black bean burger patty and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg to be vegan.

It also inspired me to elevate my patties and add more to them.

I’m sharing 3 black bean burger patties are quick easy and cheap!

I’ll start with the basic party:

Basic black bean burger patty

This recipe will make about 6 patties

Preheat your oven to 350.

Prepare a small skillet to sauté onions

– 1 onion diced sautéed set aside

-1 large can of black beans

– 1.5 cup old fashion oat meal

– 3 tablespoons of flour

– 1.4 cup tomato sauce

– tablespoon garlic powder

Combine all ingredients into food processor.

The grilled onions too.. get them in there

Pulse until the mixture appears to be “meat like”

Let this mixture rest in the fridge for about 15-20 minutes.. this allows the oats and flour to rest and combine.. it makes your black bean burger less mushy so let it rest.

Once the patties have rested form patties on a baking sheet.

Bake for 30 minutes. I flip half way through to make sure they are even.

For added flavor..

I pan fry the patty for about 2-3 minutes on each side just for color.

Once the patty is cooked, dressed the black bean patty as you wish and serve!

The beauty of this patty is your family will love it! They’re delicious, filling and a can of black bean cost about $1!

Way less money than a lb of ground beef for regular burgers.

Mushroom black bean burger patty

This recipe is pretty much identical to last. The only change is instead of just adding sautéed onions you add mushrooms to the mix.

This recipe will make about 6 patties

Preheat your oven to 350.

Prepare a small skillet to sauté onions and mushrooms

-1 cup diced mushrooms sautéed

(I like to season my mushrooms with vegan butter, garlic salt, pepper and salt)

– 3/4 cup onion diced sautéed set aside

-1 large can of black beans

– 1.5 cup old fashion oat meal

– 3 tablespoons of flour

– 1.4 cup tomato sauce

– tablespoon garlic powder

add all ingredients to the food processor.. pulse until it appears to look like meat.

Once again let the mixture rest for about 20 minutes or so to let the ingredients set.

Form patties on a baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes.

Flipping halfway through.

Once the patty is done you can pan fry the patty for extra flavors and color.

Dress the patty and serve!

I use “Daiya” diary-free cheddar slices to make my “cheese” burger

(This post is NOT sponsored… I just really enjoy this cheese on my black bean burger patties)

My final patty is one I’m most proud of so I had to save the best for last!

Southwestern black bean patty

This is the best black bean burger I’ve ever made.

Took me two years to get a burger this good!

This burger is similar to the other but the secret was adding

Carrots, onions sweet corn and taco seasoning and southwest seasoning to the mix!

Black beans go perfectly with southwest veggies and seasoning this patty was just a perfectly packed punch of flavor!

This recipe will make about 6 patties

Preheat your oven to 350.

Prepare a small skillet to sauté onion, carrots and sweet corn.

– 1 packet of taco seasoning (use a little less than 1/4 of the packet on the carrots, onions and corn.. sauté those veggies in really good in the seasoning use the other half of the packet later in the recipe 🤗)

-1 diced carrot

-1 cup frozen sweet corn

(I like to season my veggies with vegan butter, garlic salt, pepper and salt)

– 3/4 cup onion diced sautéed set aside

-1 large can of black beans

– 1.5 cup old fashion oat meal

– 3 tablespoons of flour

– 1.4 cup tomato sauce

– tablespoon garlic powder

add all ingredients to the food processorpulse until it appears to look like meat.

Let this mixture rest for about 20-30 minutes to seal in all its goodness.. it’s safe to taste the mixture to see what you need to add.. it’s not meat.

You can sprinkle on southwestern seasonings to taste.

Next form patties and bake the patties for 30 minutes.

Turning half way to ensure even cooking on both sides.

Once the patties are done baking you’re free to eat them anyway you’d like!

I say these were my best patties because of their consistency and flavor!

The corn, the carrots, the spices made this a burger I happily ate multiple times!

I even ate the patty for breakfast!

These recipes are my go to when I want a burger but I’m not will to pay $6 for processed patty.

Sometimes you just have to go back to what’s simple, easy and homemade.

I hope you enjoy this recipe.

Let know your thoughts and if you try any of the patties!

Thank you for reading.
